Manchester City attains their first Champions league final in the club history

It was a dramatic football evening in England. Even though fans were not present during the clash between the two big clubs in Europe due to Covid-19, not even the snow that covers all the pitch, the atmosphere was still very high as the two teams had a fierce battle for the ticket to Istanbul.

Manchester City went into the game with a 2-1 away win and were very much careful to avoid conceding to a fearful and dangerous Paris Saint German Boys.

City fans were relieved 11 minutes into the game when Riyan Mahrez opened the score sheet courtesy of Kevin De Bruyne‘s effort that was blocked by a PSG defender.

Minutes later, Marquinhos looked frustrated when his effort hit the crossbar. Just before half time, a golden opportunity was wasted by Angel Dị Maria.

City’s place in the 2021 Champions League final was confirmed at the heart of the second half when Riyan Mahrez struck again to reassure their fans of a dreamed Champions League final come through.

Any hope of a comeback ended with Di María’s spiteful dismissal. As the ball went out of play he tangled with Fernandinho and stamped on the City captain’s left foot. The red card was inevitable with Pochettino striding onto the pitch to try to calm his players who were a man down for the second time in the tie following Idrissa Gueye‘s sending off at Parc des Princes.

With yesterday’s win over PSG, City have now won seven Champions League matches in a row – a new record for an English club – and it is quite unfortunate that their fans were not inside the Etihad to celebrate.
